Maguari, here's an opportunity for me to ask you a question you may know the answer to. What does "mhorr" mean? Is it a different spelling of "Moor", or perhaps someone named Mhorr?

Unfortunately, I don't have a clue!

I have sometimes seen them referred to as 'Mhorr's Gazelles' but I always put that down to a mistake.

There's a challenge for ZooChat - does anyone know?

According to this site: Comparative Placentation

"... the origin of "mhorr" is from the Arabic "mhur", a designation for various young animals, not only gazelles ..."

Interestingly, the article also suggests the possibility that N. d. mhorr is actually extinct and the captive population is a dark morph of N. d. dama.
