Mixed African aviary

  • Media owner KevinB
  • Date added
One of three mixed outdoor aviaries on the bongo paddock side of the Bird House. This aviary houses smaller African species including several passerines. This used to be a block of smaller and lower aviaries until the indoor housing and the outdoor aviary were renovated in 2014-2015.

Did you spot the elusive Purple-crested turaco? I've spent hours in front of that enclosure to be rewarded by the most fleeting of glimpses.

@Goura No, I haven't been able to spot that one yet. I think I've seen all the other species over multiple visits, but not the turaco yet, not even a glimpse.

@KevinB I saw it once - I got there as soon as the zoo opened and went straight to the aviary, just in time to see it fly into the indoor quarters...and that was it. At least that means it's still there I guess!
