A really cool exhibit. The flat tables are shallow trays of soil and leaves, covered in glass, which the moles rest in and burrow through, and they travel up the tubes which lead between different tanks. Unfortunately for me, all those green labels everywhere are notices saying that the animals are not on display! Usually there are multiple species of mole and shrew on display, but currently (as of my visit at least) only two species were present in the house - the Japanese Mole Mogera wogura and the Ezo Least Shrew Sorex minutissimus hawkeri (the latter in the tank at back right, which the keeper is currently placing food into).
