I agree she is cute! I have yet to see a baby elephant yet though in person. Hopefully all goes well. despite that there is 33.3% that a stillbirth will result in each birth.
I read somewhere that hippos and rhinos though have a quite high success with healthy births in zoos, can anyone confirm this?
Hi Dragon, can you explain elephant stillbirth.
Is it that during labour the baby dies. Not from complications from unbilical cord ect. Even when all test b4 birth indicate a healthy elephant.A short term pregnancy?
33.3% sounds really high. This is not questioning your statictic. Just a bit of a wake up call for the Australian to be prepared
Hey zooman, yeah I have read it and heard it off many places I don't have a specific explanation but reasons inculde: female being restless and acting inapporate whilst pregnant to cause complications, calf comes out too large as since first pregnancy is during teen years and so there can be extra growth, the mother might not know how to give birth in the proper squatting position... though experinced mothers in the herd will help out a lot in this case and as well with caring if also the mother becomes dangerous to the calf, due to since extra hormonal activity within teens the mother could go into labour early and unexpectedly, There is also complex hormone stuff that I don't know how to explain...
