According to the 2013 guidebook the AWCC never keeps female moose for very long as there is usually a group of 4-5 bull moose at any one time and the zoo does not ever breed the species. Female moose that have recovered from injuries are transferred to other institutions and the AWCC only maintains a bull herd.
This portion of the exhibit is on the other side of the pond on the east side of the exhibit. It's possible the Moose did not have access to this section during your visit.
