This was the last Musk Ox at Whipsnade. The photo was taken in the holding pen for the paddock next to the European Bison, and opposite the Chimps. The pen was very overgrown with nettles. If I hadn't gone looking for this Musk Ox, we wouldn't have seen it.
I think it was a female.

It does look like a female from the thin horns and lack of frontal 'boss' on the top.

They used to keep the Musk Oxen paddock mowed very short, like a lawn. presumably to replicate 'tundra'. I guess by the time they were down to this single one they didn't bother any more.
 
Aren't the HWP interested in keeping these, or has that being put on hold?
