Supposed to represent an arrival in the port of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, for "Expedition Bonobo". There is also a viewing area themed like a Congolese customs post nearby, of which I will post pictures in the sessions from later visits.
This looks to be a fantastic addition for young children, with the lack of barriers around a shallow pool typical of a European zoo. Where is the Bonobo exhibit in relation to this play zone? I was of course at Planckendael last summer, but what was in this area before the construction of the boat?

@snowleopard The bonobo island is immediately to the left of this view. This playground is found next to the bonobo island's moat. This view was taken from the new "customs post" viewing area, which if my memory serves me well hadn't yet been constructed last year, but sits next to the access road to the bonobo house.

There used to be a playground at this site before also, but it was demolished for this water-themed one. However last summer the concrete floor of what is now the pond was still filled with sand and a few temporary playground playsets.

I hope this explains it sufficiently for you?
