New Black-tailed Prairie Dog enclosure

Does anyone else dislike it when Zoos put huge brightly coloured signs in the middle of an enclosure? Feels like I need binoculars to read them and also blocks out viewing part of the enclosure.

I have no problem with the sign.The problem I have is the serious lack of places for them to dig and tunnel like they could in the old enclosure!If Twycross think this is an improvement in the living conditions of the Prairie Dogs,they can think again the only thing its good for is the public getting a view of them!!!

A waste of a serviceable ungulate hardstand, by the look of it. What used to be kept here, zg?

I agree that this is not a patch on the old enclosure and that really is saying something! The old enclosure was always a highlight of childhood visits but this looks extremely poorly executed. The pit they were in before even managed to appear more natural.
But given the recent improvements in general I think that I can forgive this mistake.

The signs in this and zg's other photos do seem to be unnecessarily large, and out of character for a zoo.

Does anybody know if the sand pit in the background goes below the surface?

It doesn't it solid concrete below it!
