At the end of 1988 / beginning 1989 Walsrode recieved a small collection of Imperial pigeons from the University of Z?rich. There some research had been done on these birds.
Among them were 3 New Caledonian imperial pigeons and a year later the first captive breeding ( outside New Caledonia ? ) took place at Walsrode. The young was however not raised :(.
