Thanks for posting a great photo of this amazing gazelle species, Chinkara gazelles (Gazella bennetti) have only made it to 2 European zoos which were the London Zoo back in the 1800s and Bremmen Tierpark in the 1960s, the 4 facilities outside of india and pakistan are Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation, Doha Zoo and Al Ain Zoo, Chinkara are a species I really want to see in American zoos
It is a shame that this species isnt currently in any North American collection, as far as I know 3 United States zoos kept them in the past, those zoos were San Diego Zoo (1920s - 1940s), Honolulu Zoo (1920s), and Bronx Zoo (1900s or 1910s)
Unfortunately I cant tell you which subspecies of Chinkara (Gazella bennettii) were kept at those US zoos or even the European zoos in my previous comment, but what I can tell you is the subspecies that is at Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation and the subspecies that is at Al Ain Zoo. The former has Eastern jebeer (Gazella bennettii fuscifrons) and the latter has Deccan chinkara (Gazella bennettii bennettii), in fact, according to Volume 2 of The Handbook to Mammals of the World and Ungulate Taxonomy by Colin Groves and Peter Grubb, 5 of the 6 recognized subspecies of Chinkara gazelle (Gazella bennettii) are now considered their own full species, the taxa that were upgraded to species level are the following
As for Gazella bennettii karamii, I believe they still remain at subspecies level but I dont know off hand which species they are synonymys with, but if I had to make a guess, I would say Gazella fuscifrons due to the fact that their range is closest to that of Gazella bennettii karamii
When I get time, I will do some research and look through those books and get back to you
One more thing that I would like to mention is that besides London Zoo, Bremmen Tierpark, San Diego Zoo, Honolulu Zoo, and Bronx Zoo
Another zoo outside of the Indian subcontinent that kept Chinkara (Gazella bennettii) in the past was the zoo in Izmir, Turkey but I dont know when they kept them, my source for that info was IZY but I dont remember exactly which volume
