Unfortunately, it was only a brief visit, and I didn't see anyone to ask. Pure speculation on my part, but it could be for the Parma Wallabies they currently have off show?

That would be logical - and would account for the stereotypical Aussie red earth!

Indeed, Parma wallabies are well known for living on the baked red sand of the outback. They have clearly copied the ZSL approach for this enclosure! ;)

Does seem quite spacious for a handful of small marsupials though, anybody else think a mixed exhibit may be in the offing?

I don't know what you mean - all Australian animals live in red-earth outback-type landscapes. All of them.

Not quite. Nothing in Tasmania does. And the Red earth outback is mainly only Central Australia too.

P.S. I think in this case its just the colour of the material used for this hardstand, rather than trying to replicate any particular look, Australian or otherwise.

My point was that you wouldn't think that from zoo exhibit designs!
