I have read some speculation this exhibit will house white-tailed deer, but I'm not sure if its future inhabitants have ever been officially confirmed.
@Westcoastperson I don't remember the cables being that super thick actually, it didn't look like super heavy fencing to me. Also white-tailed deer, especially the bucks, aren't that small or weak if I'm not mistaken. The white-tailed deer are just speculation though - as I want to make clear, there has never been any official confirmation.
All that I think is certain is that some kind of boreal/temperate/fairly cold-tolerant (given the barn with partially open sides/doors) will, possibly quite soon, move into this area.
@KevinB well usually whit tail deer can be held with normal chain link, maybe this is just aesthetic?
The only North American animal that uses that type of fence besides bison is Elk. The only problem is the exhibit in the photo is way to small os there any more space beyond this?
One of my other photos, linked below, shows most of the extent of the exhibit. I would say it would be on the small side for wapiti/elk or bison. Also, both species already have spaces for them.
We will just have to see what they do with this area, as because I said the white-tailed deer is just speculation on zoo website/social media groups. Other people however seem to think they might move one of their existing species into this exhibit to use that space for a new species. But there has been no official confirmation. So all we can do is wait and see what they move in here.
