New Guinea Singing Dog at Wallaroo Station at Lowry Park Zoo

As I understand it (correct me if I am wrong), dingos and singing dogs are non-native feral dogs (albeit long-established feral dogs). I cannot understand why mainstream zoos would want to maintain them?

I think NGSD's are a breed of the domestic dog, that are feral on the island of New Guinea, while dingos are their own seperate subspecies of the gray wolf.

Both the NGSD and the Dingo are classified as Canis lupus dingo. These two animals are virtually identical and are from a group of feral animals that arrived in NG and Aus. about 3,000 years ago. Really, they shouldn't even be designated as a distinct subspecies with that little of a diversification time and are in reality probably nothing more than Canis lupus familiaris.

Whether feral or wild, Singing Dogs can make entertaing displays. Perhaps money from admissions to see this animal can help truly wild animals in the wild.
