How does this area look to you size wise having seen it? Have the hippo's been shafted for space or is there more that cant been seen like a grassy area?
The elephant area looks pretty impressive from what I can see from your photos.
I wouold say there is an area that looks like it is intended to be grassy eventually!
The hippos' new home is (as would be expected) smaller than the elephants', but it's much bigger than their current home. I'm not sure if the intention is to mix the hippos with the antelopes; this may increase the hippos' space if so.
Has Prague always had a world-class zoo or is it only in the last couple decades that it has become renowned? It was not a zoo that I had much awareness of before joining Zoochat, but that may just be a general ignorance of European zoos that I had.
The bull Hippo that will use this is the same one that was trapped in the old House in the notorious flood. I have a postcard from Prague which shows him with a bloodied muzzle poking through a window of the House. But he evidently survived that. The female escaped though and they had to shoot her so presumably she has been replaced.

It has historically been a great zoo from a collection and zoo biology perspective. After it was devastated by flooding several years ago, it has also become a great exhibition zoo, with nearly the entire impressive site undergoing massive renovation and expansion. It is one of the world's truly great zoos; a personal favorite of mine. The city it is part of is rather nice as well!
