I would like to see this species back in the French Zoos... (or even nearly elsewhere in other European countries, given that Czech Republic is the last country to host this species for now in our continent)
From what I have seen, as of recent, a cat-park in Germany has recently acquired 2 brown hyaena from a private collection in the United Kingdom. [Makes one wonder whether Striped was also kicking about in private hands as well..] The park seems to have a policy in that they only offer guided tours, but booking for a tour seems fairly easy, and as well as Brown Hyaena, it is the only collection of Europe, to my knowledge, to house all three true-hyaenas.
@dillotest0 if true it would be very interesting, as lineages of Brown Hyaenas have nearly collapsed in European zoos, only Prague still keeps a pair of this species now while they were quite frequent in the 2000s and even early 2010s.
The only possibilities to bring back this species seemed to be imports from African or maybe Latin American (Mexico, Cuba...) facilities.
@Haliaeetus Though limited amount of zoos keep Brown Hyena in South Africa, The private trade is overflowing of brown hyenas, many many private collections keep Brown Hyenas.
It would be of relative ease for European Zoos to import from here.
The individuals at Prague originated from the now closed, Tygerburg Zoo in South Africa.
