Is the square on the floor where people are meant to drop their butts? Noone will queue to stand in it & if they try to kick someone out for smoking next to it when the sign says smoking zone they'll just lose customers!
I have no problem with smoking areas, but don't see what the marking on the floor is for!
From what i gather from your post on the news thread, they are trying to make the car park no smoking? Ridiculous, it would be easier & more enforceable to just make the zoo no smoking apart from say one area & allow it in the car park.
There are only 3 of these in the zoo and one in the car park. There are butt bins on the posts and I assume the square is for you to stand in, they are slightly off to the sides of the main route but it does not say which direction you are supposed to blow your smoke in!!
As the partner of a smoker I thought they were brilliant although he did get twitchy between zones but they are all marked on the map and the map includes their smoking policy 'Colchester Zoo promotes a no-smoking policy. We ask all visitors to refrain from smoking whilst inside the park. there are 3 smoking areas available indicated on your map'.
I think the car park one may be just for show?! rather than to dictate what people do in their own cars etc.
I have been to other zoos that have smoking area and found these to work well, it may take a while for regulars to notice the change of policy though.
It may be the one in the car park is for people to go outside if they are nearer the entrance than a smoking zone then, i just don't see how they can stop people smoking in car park if that is the intention & the square next to the post is pointless really.
As i said i have no objection to the idea of smoking zones .
