New Wreathed Hornbill Exhibit

Rhyticeros undulatus. This exhibit existed previously, and held lappet-faced vultures. The wreathed hornbills were elsewhere in the zoo. Wings of Wonder. May 14, 2016
Is this replacing the seriema? It's only been about a month since Iv'e gone here and the hornbill wasn't there.

@d1am0ndback it seems this exhibit no longer holds hornbill then. They were new residents when I took the photo, but if seriema are now there then that is clearly no longer the case.

@jayjds2 Oh I had the impression you took this picture very recently. Now I remember seeing wreathed hornbill being moved down to the aviary next to the Maguari storks and Galapagos tortoises. I was afraid they were already moving the seriema off exhibit since I remember the vultures in there just not the hornbills.

@d1am0ndback maguari storks? I only knew of wood storks (M. americana) in the area near the Galapagos tortoises. The wreathed hornbills used to be housed in one of those aviaries, but moved for at least a couple months to Wings of Wonder.

@jayjds2 Are they rare? I don't know much about maguari storks but I remember the wood storks being there for a short period of time then being moved to the flamingo area where they are now. The cranes they used to keep where the maguari are now live by the koalas.

@d1am0ndback yes, they are relatively rare in captivity, with only 1.4 in the US, though there are ten European holders. The red-crowned cranes had moved to their new exhibit before I moved, there was a rather interesting set of exhibit changes in the few weeks around the reopening of the monorail. Did the zoo have white naped cranes (in an area similar to the red-crowned) near the tiger exhibit? They were set to receive them last summer but I haven't heard if that went through.

And thank you for answering all of my questions!

@jayjds2 Most certainly they are located right across from tiger viewing down low. I'll be happy to answer any other questions about changes since they've gone through a fair bit and I go to Dallas and Fort Worth all the time. The most notable change I see in Dallas right now is the construction of a komodo dragon exhibit in the reptile house, something I've known they were planning for years that they haven't spread news about.

@d1am0ndback thanks! I'm quite surprised the zoo hasn't reported at least some of these changes/arrivals on social media, particularly the arrival of the new cranes (announced beforehand) and the exhibit for Komodo dragons. I don't have any other questions right now, but I'll message you if I think of any (so we don't keep adding irrelevant comments to this thread). Thanks again!
