Newborn Cape hyrax

Photographed at 10.30 am (BST, the time in the EXIF data is GMT/UST).
The keepers had not seen anything unusual when the animals were released into the outdoor enclosure, but bongorob, zoogiraffe and I saw two babies at this time and there were four when we returned in the afternoon. Exhibit next to hunting dogs, Chester, 21st July 2012

Very good news! Always looked a bit empty with just the two of them.

This is fantastic news. Judging from another member (Mick?) the photo he took of them mating looks to have fit well with the gestation period. Now that these have bred, Cotswold's are the other collection to breed Hyrax however not the same sub-species.

Edinburgh has also bred them within the last year too..

Are Edinburghs pure Cape Rock Hyrax or just generic Rock Hyrax,as I was under the impression that Chester held the only pure Cape Rock Hyrax in the UK.
