Newborn Cape hyrax

Photographed at 10.30 am.
The keepers had not seen anything unusual when the animals were released into the outdoor enclosure, but bongorob, zoogiraffe and I saw two babies at this time and there were four when we returned in the afternoon. Exhibit next to hunting dogs, Chester, 21st July 2012

Very good news! Always looked a bit empty with just the two of them. :D

This is fantastic news. Judging from another member (Mick?) the photo he took of them mating looks to have fit well with the gestation period. ;) Now that these have bred, Cotswold's are the other collection to breed Hyrax however not the same sub-species.

Are Edinburghs pure Cape Rock Hyrax or just generic Rock Hyrax,as I was under the impression that Chester held the only pure Cape Rock Hyrax in the UK.

Lovely photo. What a great little animal. Now I'll have to go to see them this afternoon (and I really did intend to do my housework!!)

Great shot GL !!!
