Henry the Nile Hippo, a resident of Dickerson Park Zoo for 34 years, has left to become the star attraction at the new, $8 million Hippo Cove at Cincinnati Zoo. He'll have two females as companions and it will be interesting to see what becomes of his old exhibit. In 2012 the AZA criticized the Dickerson Park Zoo hippo enclosure and essentially stated that the exhibit did not meet modern standards of care. The zoo's next AZA accreditation inspection is not slated to take place until 2017 and so perhaps moving its only hippo will aid in the re-accreditation process.
