I've just edited the title of this picture. I had it labelled as a three-striped ground squirrel Lariscus insignis, largely because I hadn't been able to find any pictures of the Niobe ground squirrel so had no idea what that species looked actually like. There's very little information about the Niobe ground squirrel around, so I thought it safest to assume it was the more common three-striped ground squirrel in the meantime. But I have a few photos being used in an upcoming Squirrels Of The World book and the authors have positively identified this as a Niobe ground squirrel so I'm pretty happy with finally having an ID on it!
