You serious!? How come they just can't count them? They must take inventory of them when the pups are born each year. Are they left outside 24hrs. a day as I don't see a way into an indoor exhibit?

They breed rapidly like all rodents do, and with their underground lifestyle, it is hard to know exactly how many are there. To make sure it doesn't get too overcrowded, they occasionally neuter a few males.
