This leopard subspecies has japonensis in its scientific name, but wild leopards are not distributed in Japan. (This is likely an mistakes by the zoologist who named it.)
@captain alligator Leopards (and tigers as well, if I'm not mistaken) were once a part of Japan's fauna on prehistoric times. The japonensis part of this subspecies's cientific name probably comes from the time where the Koreas were once a colony of Japan.
