Notice about the Birds

The notice on the window doesn't say they are afraid of avian flu but at least they are trying to tell people there is a reason birds are off display.

Oh sorry, Cypher. It is on the window were you can view the crowned cranes outside. It's right at the edge of the window.

Ah, that makes sense. I usually don't look out that way. Since the Crowed Cranes are usually indoors.

Yeah I only noticed the sign because I happened to look that way. If I didn't need to swing around a group going the opposite direction I probably never would have noticed. Its not a big sign. 95% probably pass right by it and never see it.

The strains of avian flu which have recently been affecting poultry and wild birds in North America mostly aren't those which have caused deadly epidemics among humans.
I can see why the zoo doesn't want to suggest that 'bird flu' is affecting large numbers of wild birds and perhaps scare visitors who are unaware of epidemiological news.

I think you are very right there devilfish. They don't want to scare visitors but at the same time they do need to let people know the birds are either off display or located elsewhere. Best to not worry visitors while keeping the collection safe from harm. I think most who know more about threats to birds would assume they meant West Nile Virus.
