A view inside the outdoor walkthrough aviary that makes up the first part of the Oceanium in Odense Zoo. The biotope here is tropical rainforest and several different free-ranging species can be seen in here, such as golden lion tamarins, scarlet ibis, inka terns crested screamers, bare-faced curassows and hyacinth macaws.
The shallow lake in front is used as a feeding ground for the scarlet ibises and inka terns and therefore usually very crowded.
The Oceanium in Odense Zoo is themed as a journey through South America starting from the rainforests in the north going down through the Amazon basin and ending in the Falkland Islands. It is one of the largest projects in any Danish zoo to date and also one of the absolute best. The Oceanium is the cornerstone of the South American theme in Odense and opened in 2001.
