Part of the indoors tropical rainforest that makes up the second part of the Oceanium in Odense Zoo. The main attraction inside this tropical house is the manatees living in a large pool that takes up most of the space in here. Free-ranging species living amongst tropical plants include pygmy marmosets, two-toed sloths, crimson-bellied conures, night-herons, green-backed herons, sunbitterns and red-shouldered teals.
In this picture you can see a small part of the manatee pool. The manatee pool is shaped as a set of shallow canals going between some islands with one very deep end. It is very possibly the best manatee exhibit in Europe.
The Oceanium in Odense Zoo is themed as a journey through South America starting from the rainforests in the north going down through the Amazon basin and ending in the Falkland Islands. It is one of the largest projects in any Danish zoo to date and also one of the absolute best. The Oceanium is the cornerstone of the South American theme in Odense and opened in 2001.
