The zoo was attempting to get Malayan Tapirs for this exhibit from 2011 until at least a couple of years ago but to no avail. The constant changing of directors (6 or 7 individuals since 2008) plus the loss of AZA-accreditation has placed Honolulu Zoo into constant turmoil. A supposedly very good zoo but one that is a total gong show in terms of leadership and finances.
