Old Elephant House, Wellington Zoo, 10/3/2011

The front wall is all that remains of this historic building, with a building (with dreadful-looking roof) containing a tuck shop, toilets and reptile exhibits, built behind this. At the right is the new function space, called Kamala\'s, after the zoos last elephant. I guess it was tricky to incorporate the old facade in the new building, especially on a low budget, but I don\'t think they did a great job. The flow behind the facade and the new building isn\'t great.

that really does look awful. I don't much like the paint job either; it looked much better in white (http://www.zoochat.com/15/historic-elephant-house-wellington-zoo-30463/). I am pleasantly surprised that the front of the building remains though, I was under the impression it was going to be removed entirely for the cafe.

Yeah, it looked better in white. I wish the new roof was flush with the top of the old facade, they could have easily reduced the floor height inside to achieve this. It would have looked much better. Who were the architects here!?!?!
