Today Zie-Zoo announced the death of this animal at the age of 19, she was euthanized yesterday after tumors were found during a medical check-up. Zie-Zoo does however plan to continue keeping this species. With the announcement of her death I decided to post my final photos of her today.

@captain alligator The post announcing her death states that they are expecting another striped hyena to arrive soon. The arrival of the other animal was the reason why they did a medical check-up on here, which sadly resulted in the finding of several tumors followed by euthanasia.

Dierenpark Zie-ZOO on Instagram: "Afscheid gestreepte hyena Gisteren hebben we de moeilijke beslissing moeten nemen om onze oude dame gestreepte hyena in te laten slapen. Omdat er binnenkort een nieuwe gestreepte hyena komt kreeg de oude vrouw een algehele gezondheidscheck, waarbij ze onder verdoving was. Uit dit onderzoek bleek dat er verschillende tumoren in haar lijf zaten. Omdat de vooruitzichten niet rooskleurig waren hebben we besloten om haar niet meer uit haar verdoving wakker te laten worden. Uit de sectie nadien, bleek dat veel van haar organen waren aangetast door de tumoren. De oude dame had de respectabele leeftijd van 19 jaar oud. Wat behoorlijk oud is, de meeste gestreepte hyena’s in dierentuinen worden ongeveer 15 a 16 jaar oud."
