This photo reminds me that, when I visited Henry Doorly in May this year, a lot of visitors were offering food - and bubblegum - to the orangs through the wire. There was no docent nearby, though zoo staff must surely know that this kind of thing goes on. When a member of my party raised the issue with a docent in another part of the zoo, the man showed zero interest.
