I've also just uploaded a recent photo of the male, currently held in a paddock adjacent to the second group of blesbok (ie. behind the nilgai housing, just on the right as you enter the Passage through Asia drive-through section).
Although semi-offshow as you mention, you can get a reasonable view of him - albeit behind fencing - if you walk up to the blesbok enclosure, just before the cattle grid into Passage through Asia.

Yes, I have seen the onager stallion a number of times in the (almost) off-exhibit enclosure, behind the nilgai, that you mention.
However, despite looking for him yesterday, I didn’t see him which is why qualified my statement about the off-exhibit male by adding the comment “or at least there was”.
