Orana Park map, 1980s

Map circa early or mid 1980s. The two main features for narrowing down the date are that the Patas Monkeys (on an island in the centre of this map) were imported in 1981, and that stage two of the African Plains area (outside the right edge of this map) was opened in 1988. Stage one was the three paddocks (camel, zebra, oryx) and "African huts". The Giraffes here are still in a paddock to the left of the map, moving in c.1988 to the unlabelled paddock at the top right.

See this c.1994 map of Orana Park for a detailed description of animals and changes: Orana Park map, c.1994 | ZooChat

Animals on this 1980s map which are no longer kept at Orana (or in New Zealand in some cases) include Himalayan Tahr, Nilgai, Sitatunga, Grey and Red Kangaroos, and Grey Wolves (put down in 1993).
