could you compare this to twycross enclosure in terms of its design? I mean both are sort of circular from the indoor house. could they not do something to make the concrete moat look a bit better

Actually apart from the concrete moat I think this enclosure is alot better than Twycross`s as it has far more stuff for the Orang`s to climb on than Twycross.
I hate this 'old' style of enclosure for Orangutans- Twycross, Blackpool, Dudley, Colchester,Dublin- all virtually as bad as each other in my opinion. Monkeyworld's is much more spacious but equally artificial/ugly.
I think the only good outside enclosures for Orangs in GB are Paignton(the best) and Chester.

But that first list makes no reference to the UK/GB! Then Pertinax switches to 'best in GB' and only mentions Chester and Paignton. His pedant credentials remain intact!
Thanks, I'll happily take them -actually Jersey slipped my mind altogether. I think Jersey's indoor area is excellent(very high etc) the outdoor islands I think are okay but a little dissappointing as they are rather bare, compared to Paignton or Chester. I think for this species only a large grove of live trees(as at Paignton) really does them justice nowadays.
yeah this has more climbing equiptment, howveer it is not as high as Twycross's, but yeas Blackpool has more. Also, that moat is terrible. tTleast where the concrete is here Twycross has grass in its place. The organs at Twycross are always rolling on it. Im sure if this concrete was grassed over itd be far better.
In Zoos, Orangutans always spend much more time on the ground than they would in the wild- no matter how much climbing equipment they have. The less concrete there is, the better the condition of their coats will be (because contact with concrete wears the hair away) Twycross' Orangutans have pretty good coats whereas Blackpool's do not- I think the amount of concrete is the main reason.
