I have a question @MagicYoung. San Diego also sent to African elephant calves in the 80's (to Canton). Were they and other animals given to china in exchange for Chinese wildlife?

I think so. I have searched the net and one article referred to the exchange in 1986(1985 is not correct), it said this exchange involved 8 zoos. They are Beijing zoo, Shanghai zoo,Chengdu zoo,Chongqing zoo, on the other side, New York zoo,San Francisco zoo,San Diego zoo and Seattle zoo. There are more than 40 species has been exchanged. But the article only specifies two species, one is Orangutan(I think it must be Terry), the other one is François' langur.
One of the African elephants(male) that sent to Canton has died in 2008 and the female still lives there.
