For those who may be wondering about the train car near and the train tracks within this aviary:

The train car was supposedly placed there to tell the story of the dangers facing Asiatic lions in their last remaining stronghold, the Gir Forest in Gujarat, India, including apparently getting run over by trains, and possibly more broadly speaking, of fragmentation of and intrusion into habitats of large fauna by humans.

Additionally the train car is also used in theming. Around the train car theming has been developed to make the area look like a small train station in India. I might share a picture at some point if I can find or make one that doesn't have too many people in it.

The train car itself, though, was donated to Planckendael by the Belgian railway company, the NMBS and was basically some of their old 'junk" they were probably glad to be rid of this way (although train cars of this same type are in fact still used on some smaller lines).
