Otago Shags (Leucocarbo chalconotus)

Oamaru, May 2022
A cropped photo taken of the colony on the old wharf in Oamaru harbour. Otago Shags come in two colour morphs, pied and bronze. Both forms can be seen in this picture, with a bronze one showing well in the centre foreground. The chocolate-coloured birds on the right are juveniles of the bronze morph. The smaller grey cormorants are Spotted Shags (Stictocarbo punctatus). The gulls are Red-billed Gulls (Larus novaehollandiae).
