Otago Shags (Leucocarbo chalconotus)

Oamaru, May 2022
A cropped photo taken of the colony on the old wharf in Oamaru harbour. Otago Shags come in two colour morphs, pied and bronze. Both forms can be seen in this picture. The brown and white (rather than black and white) birds in the middle are juveniles of the pied morph. The smaller grey cormorants scattered amongst the Red-billed Gulls (Larus novaehollandiae) are Spotted Shags (Stictocarbo punctatus).
