One of the Ottoman viper (Montivipera xanthina) in the nice enclosure.
A very nice taxon which I would love to see someday - I was fortunate enough to see the related Armenian Viper (Montevipera raddeii) at ZSL London when they still held the species.

They are indeed a very nice taxon and although i like the colouration of the Armenian viper better, Ottoman vipers are a bit more impressive, as they are the largest European vipers...

Wow - having seen how big the Nose-horned Viper (Vipera ammodytes) can get at Alpenzoo, that is pretty impressive. How do they compare to ammodytes size-wise?

The largest individuals grow up too 130 cm, although most individuals reach the length of the largest V. ammodytes, but M. xanthina is a bit fatter too ;)
