Well...yes! Plus in Italy there is a big movement against zoos.
And zoos especially Bioparco are extremely connected with politics.
Just think that after Douglas Richardson left Bioparco at the beginning of the masterplan the zoo was ruined by Monica Cirinnà(a person who hate zoos and wanted Bioparco to be closed). She decided to stop the masterplan and probably put the animals on contraceptives(the birth at bioparco stopped for some years) and donated some parts of the zoo to Rome's city council. Fortunately she now left the zoo, and by coincidence now there are more births at bioparco.
I can understand why there is a movement against zoos if this is a common way of displaying animals in Italy. Im sorry Im not wishing to be overly critical but I think good zoos get support for zoos.
A real shame that there isn't more interest/money available!
