Great art adds so much to a zoo.Modern zoos have a fair amount of good architecture , but are very, very poor when it comes to art.It will be a long time before we can expect to see again the likes of the quality of the sculpture in this photo in a zoo environment , but beautiful small bronzes can be commissioned for a reasonable cost. Also , there are usually plenty of donors prepared to cover the cost of artwork. Some zoo committees see sculpture as an unnecessary expense , but I believe that a beautiful bronze can do more for a zoo than a 1,000 public-relations press releases , and of course it will last for the lifetime of the zoo.To repeat, don´t spend zoo money - just butter up potential donors , many of whom would be absolutely delighted to fund the commission / acquisition in return for being named on a small plaque on the base.
