The free-flight hall in the paradieshalle has also gotten a bit of a lift with the vegetation being cut down A LOT letting in much more light! Some of the roof panes also got changed!
It seems they are aiming to transform this free-flight hall into a space primarily inhabited by African species, given that most of the current residents are indeed from Africa.
Here is a list of the species I observed:
- Long-toed lapwing (Vanellus crassirostris)
- Crowned lapwing (Vanellus coronatus)
- Black-winged stilt (Himantopus himantopus)
- Western long-tailed hornbill (Horizocerus albocristatus albocristatus)
- West African pied hornbill (Lophoceros semifasciatus)
- Snowy-crowned robin-chat (Cossypha niveicapilla)
- Bruce's green pigeon (Treron waalia)
- Purple starling (Lamprotornis purpureus)
- Violet turaco (Tauraco violaceus)
- Bearded barbet (Pogonornis dubius)
- Common house sparrow (Passer domesticus domesticus)
- European blackbird (Turdus merula merula)
- Nicobar pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica)
