Thank-you. The Parrot House was demolished to make way for part of the Realm of the Red Ape development. The zoo still has some choice parrots off display, but maybe Chester regulars (I have not been since 2008) will know why it has decided not to have many species on exhibit.
I think it was decided the parrot breeding centre built behind the green houses would give more privacy, therefore less disturbance to the parrots held, which included cockatoos which are said to be notoriously difficult birds to breed in captive settings.

They did well with the blue-eyed cockatoos when they were on show. The parrot breeding centre has not achieved much success with breeding which is a shame, even taking into accocunt a lot of the parrots are no longer bred because of a lack of demand.
Some nice photos there bongorob. I had not known about the disaster with the Red-fronted Macaws; I shall have to dig out the appropriate annual report, look at the stock list and wonder how I either missed it completely or did not commit it to memory.
