I visited Adelaide Zoo in January 2008 and I'm very fond of its big cat enclosures.
The cult that is horrified by the sole mention of the word 'cage' will probably think this leopard cage is brutal and from the medieval ages, but truth is that it is far above the ground, the leopard has enough places to hide and can climb up and around. What more could he need? The lion cage next door is huge, and I don't care if it is a cage, it serves the lions well, they have places to withdraw from the public eye, and I’m sure they won’t mind the railing one bit.
Adelaide Zoo, keep up the good work! Some of your enclosures may be a bit out of date, but the zoo’s atmosphere is lovely and the general impression is nice. If not for that it was around 43° on the day of my visit (hence there were perhaps as few as 100 visitors on the zoo grounds) it would have been perhaps my most enjoyable zoo visit of all.
