Pheasant

Pheasant in July 2010 in the Reeve's Muntjac exhibit
A brown eared pheasant. Is Central park zoo the only zoo in the country exhibiting this species? They are pretty hard to acquire.

Are they really that hard to find? Here in Alberta there is a breeder that breeds quite large numbers, and ships all over Canada for sure. She is where I got my blue eared from.

Maybe true in Canada. But in the US, I saw some white eared ones in some zoos, but not brown eared. Even rarer are the blue eared. Do you know which zoos have the brown eared and blue eared in Canada?

I have never actually seen them in any zoos in Canada. I am basing my numbers on those for sale in the private sector and the availability of breeding pairs. In Alberta at least, blue are most common, brown next and white are the hardest to come by.

Bronx has Brown Eared-Pheasants, White Eared-Pheasants, and Blue-Eared Pheasants.

In Europe all 3 species are quite common in zoos - in 2 of the 3 collections I worked at we had all 3 species = Vogelpark Walsrode and Tierpark Gettorf ( both Germany ).
Also the Rooie Hoeve ( the Netherlands ) which I visited recently has all 3 species,

@Dibatag I don't know where they acquired these. It doesn't seem to be one of the species bred at Sylvan Heights or Pinola. Maybe Bronx acquires them from Canada?
