Those guys actually aren't part of the zoo collection. The checkered whiptails can let themselves in and out of the lizard exhibit in the Arizona Trail aviary. They are all over zoo grounds as are desert spiny lizards, gopher snakes, California king snakes, roundtail ground squirrels, hispid cotton rats, and desert cottontails.
One of the wonderful things about both the Phoenix Zoo and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum are all of the lizards and other creatures that seem to be around every corner in the path.
