The *real* reason you'll never do a bird version of your recent species thread - unlike mammals, you never bother taking photographs of rare and unusual birds you've seen (only taking photos of their aviaries whether you see them or not) and therefore have no way of checking what species you've seen retrospectively even if they're possibly the only ones in captivity!
