Part of the exhibit for black rats (Rattus rattus) inside Tropical House in the Asia Area in Planckendael. The rats have their exhibit in a half-buried temple ruin of which the top half can be seen here. Inside the ruin itself, there is an exhibition on black rats and the history of The Black Death.
The large tropical house features mammals, birds and reptiles from the rainforests of South East Asia.

The Asia theme in Planckendael is the newest theme currently being developed. The first major part (Gir Forest and Tropical House) was opened in 2006 while the next major part (elephants) will open in 2012.
