The (very) small village inside the Tropical House in the Asia Area in Planckendael. The area consists of a small hut with a terrarium for tokay geckos (Gekko gecko) and aviaries with birds that can often be found around domestic dwellings and rice fields. The small aviary houses white-rumped munias (Lonchura striata), zebra doves (Geopelia striata) and red-whiskered bulbuls (Pycnonotus jocosus) while the big aviary houses java sparrows (Padda oryzivora), green-backed herons (Butorides striata) and collared kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris).
The large tropical house features mammals, birds and reptiles from the rainforests of South East Asia.
The Asia theme in Planckendael is the newest theme currently being developed. The first major part (Gir Forest and Tropical House) was opened in 2006 while the next major part (elephants) will open in 2012.
