A common wombat (Vombatus ursinus hirsutus) in the Oceania Area in Planckendael. Planckendael is one of only 4 European zoos to keep wombats. A bit of luck is required to see the wombats active here, and as you can see I had it.
The Oceania theme in Planckendael opened in 1998 and is one of the most extensive in Europe featuring wildlife from Australia and New Guinea.
