In 2011 a trio of Plumed Whistling Ducks arrived at Anderson Park in Napier as vagrants from Australia, and they decided to just stay put. Two of the birds have since died but this last one is still going strong at over ten years old. As can be seen from his (or her) posture in the photo above, he makes sure that the local Mallards treat him with respect.
