Sadly there are still lots of zoos worldwide that have polar bear exhibits that still look remarkably similar to this one. Across much of Europe and Asia, including almost 30 zoos just in Japan, captive polar bears live in similarly barren, awful-looking pits.
Snowleopard, a number of zoochat members considered this to be the best polar bear exhibit in the UK at the time and this photo doesn't show the quite large pool fully.
If you have the time, you should check out the Chester gallery to see if there are shots of either Europe on the Edge or Condor Cliffs. They are both fantastic, huge, multi-species aviaries that Chester converted from the basic bear enclosures.
